STS Staffing is assisting our client on USA Parkway in their search for a Battery Disassembling and Disposal Technician. This role involves safely disabling and disposing of various types of batteries, including but not limited to lithium-ion, lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, and other common battery types. The position requires working in a heavy-lifting, physically demanding, and dirty environment, with a focus on safety. The technician will handle hazardous materials and must follow strict safety protocols at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely disable and decommission different types of batteries (e.g., lithium-ion, alkaline, lead-acid, etc.).
- Follow proper protocols for handling, storing, and disposing of batteries to ensure safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
- Work in a heavy-lifting, physically demanding environment that may be dirty or require handling large and bulky items.
- Wear appropriate protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots.
- Perform testing to ensure batteries are fully discharged and rendered safe before disposal or recycling.
- Coordinate with waste management teams to ensure the proper recycling or disposal of batteries.
- Maintain detailed records of battery types, quantities, and disposal methods.
- Troubleshoot and identify potential safety hazards associated with battery discharging.
- Stay informed on safety standards, regulations, and environmental practices related to battery disposal.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure safe handling of batteries in the workplace.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a technical, environmental, or safety role involving hazardous materials is a plus.
- Knowledge of battery types, risks, and safety protocols.
- Ability to operate specialized equipment for battery discharging and testing.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening (THC is acceptable).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy battery packs or materials.
- Ability to work in a dirty, industrial environment.
- Comfortable working with hazardous substances and following strict safety guidelines.
- Steel-toed boots are required.
